The
tasks of the Foreign Intelligence Agency
(Agencja
Wywiadu)
specified by law are carried out by it outside the territory of
the state, whereas its activity on the territory of the Republic
of Poland is possible only to a limited extent – exclusively in
connection with its activity abroad. The Foreign Intelligence
Agency fulfils the following functions: |

obtaining, analysing, processing and submission
of the information which may be essential for the security and
international position of the Republic of Poland and its
economic and defensive potential to relevant authorities; |

recognising and countering external threats aimed
at undermining the security, defences, independence and
inviolability of the territory of the Republic of Poland; |
|
-
protection of missions of the Republic of Poland
and their workers abroad from actions taken by foreign secret
services, and other actions that can be detrimental to the
interests of the Republic of Poland; |
|
-
provision of cryptographic protection of
communication with the Polish diplomatic and consular missions,
as well as the courier service; |
|
-
recognition of international terrorism, extremism
and international organised gangs of criminals; |
|
- rrecognition
of the international turnover of weapons, ammunition, as well as
explosive materials, intoxicants and psychotropic substances,
goods, technologies and services of strategic importance for the
security of the state, and recognition of the international
turnover of weapons of mass destruction and threats related to
the spread of these weapons and the means of its transfer; |

recognition and analysis of the threats occurring
in areas of international tension and conflicts and crises
affecting the security of the state, and taking actions aimed at
the elimination of these threats; |

conduction of electronic intelligence; |
|
-
taking other actions specified in separate acts
and international agreements. |
